9/21/09 Girls volleyball wins Consolation Championship at Liberty Tournament
Bethel's girls' volleyball team opened the season with a tough 3-0 loss at Southlands Christian (the 2008 CIF 5A Finalists) and suffered a hard-fought 3-1 loss at home to Pacific Lutheran last week, while managing to sandwich a 3-0 win over New Harvest between those matches.
The time for revenge came at the Liberty Christian Volleyball Tournament. In pool play, the Lady Warriors split sets with Southlands, 25-22 and 22-25, followed with a split with Pacific Lutheran, 17-25 and 25-15. Following the pattern, Bethel split with eventual tournament champion Desert Chapel, 25-22 and 21-25.
Entering bracket play, the Warriors had a hard-time getting started, dropping the first match to Delphi Academy, 25-19, but came back to beat South Bay Lutheran 25-19 despite some lackadaisical play and having to come from behind early in the match. The stage was set for a Bethel-Liberty match-up in the Consolation Championship match. The match was close early on, but Bethel dominated the middle of the match, pushing to a 22-15 lead. After a Liberty rally, Bethel closed it out, finishing with a 25-20 win.
